Top Five Summer Foundations

BeFunkyCollage

Hello beautiful ones! I’m so excited to give you all my top five summer foundations. We all know that the summer weather can be quite overbearing on our makeup while we’re trying to look our absolute fiercest. The trend this time of year is “glowing” skin, but there is a difference between being “glowy” and being “oily” we definitely don’t want the second option. After many years testing different foundations; I have found five fabulous summer holy grail foundations. I will also place an online shopping link below.

I have oily/combination skin which means that I am oily on my T-zone (nose and forehead) then dry or normal around my cheek and mouth area. As displayed below.

During the summer, my oily areas are out of control. These foundations have definitely kept my oily areas under control while at the same time letting my natural glow shine through. It is very important for any foundation to last all day, always moisturize first, then use an oil-free/mattifying primer along with a setting powder.

Enough of my blabbering! let’s proceed to the countdown.

5.) NARS Sheer Glow Foundation

Retail: $45.00

15906002602__64771.1396403352.600.600

Perfect for: Normal to Dry skin

Coverage: Medium to Full

PRO’s: This foundation is gorgeous! The first thing that you notice once you apply this foundation is that it has a beautiful skin-like finish otherwise referred to as demi-matte. The consistency is very thick and creamy but it gives a luxurious feel on the skin instead of a cakey feeling. A huge plus+ is that this foundation comes in nineteen shades so there are definitely some options for women of color.

CON’s: Now since this foundation is called “Sheer Glow” if you have intensely oil prone skin, it is imperative that you use this foundation with caution. This product is also prone to settling into your smile lines as the day goes on, so bare that in mind. One downside is that there is no pump on this bottle so it’s easy to waste product. Another thing to point out is the price; because this is a high-end foundation lets just say it’s not so sincere on your wallet.

Gabriella’s Final Verdict: This foundation is very easy to blend, I would suggest using a Beauty Blender for full-coverage or use a foundation brush for light to buildable coverage. Remember if you have oily skin use a mattifying primer then set this foundation with a setting powder to control the appearance of oil.

4.) Laura Mercier: Tinted Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 20 Oil-Free

Retail: $44.00

Perfect for: All skin

Coverage: Light to Medium

PRO’s: If you’re looking for coverage without the “cake.” This is what you should turn to; because this is a tinted moisturizer you are receiving amazing hydration and flawless coverage with no oil added. If you’re an oily girl like myself; the “oil-free” description is always something to smile about. Although this is a moisturizer; the coverage is quite similar to a foundation. This product blends like a dream, while giving the look of a second-skin.

CON’s:  Even though this tinted moisturizer says “oil-free,” that does not mean that this product is mattifying. Don’t think that just blending this on your face and walking outside on a hot humid day, means that you would be free of your natural oils. I know that being oily can be quite frustrating but we just have to put a little more effort sometimes.

Gabriella’s Final Verdict: This is lovely for those days that you just want to look as natural as possible. I recommend using a foundation brush with this product. In my opinion, this product blends flawlessly with a dense rounded foundation brush.Remember if you have oily skin use a mattifying primer then set this tinted moisturizer with a translucent powder to control the appearance of oil.

3.) Makeup Forever Mat Velvet+

Retail: $39.00

Mat-Velvet-Foundation-Tara-Feb-2014

Perfect for: Normal and Oily Skin

Coverage: Medium to Full

PRO’s: Everyone meet Mat Velvet, she’s my best friend. This was my first high-end foundation purchase and still to this day I keep running back. This foundation gives the perfect skin like finish while controlling my oily t-zone. Another amazing plus is that this foundation comes in 20 shades, so if you are a woman of color you’re definitely going to find your match. This foundation very travel- friendly. Its small slim design can go straight into your purse or pocket, but this foundation is so reliable I doubt that you would need to reapply it.

CON’s: If you’re a spoiled makeup junkie like “yours truly,” the packaging can be really weird. I like my luxurious glass bottles with the pump on top. This packaging is a frosted plastic container with a screw- on lid. One last note; you would need to touch up with powder at least once during the day, it won’t keep you dry forever.

Gabriella’s Final Verdict: This foundation gives a gorgeous demi-matte finish, with great oil control while at the same time revealing a natural glow. I would suggest using a Beauty Blender for flawless full coverage. Remember if you have oily skin use a mattifying primer then set this foundation with a setting powder to control the appearance of oil.

2.) Estee Lauder: Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup

Retail: $38.00

Perfect for: Oily Skin

Coverage: Medium to Full

PRO’s: You could be stuck in the middle of a monsoon and still look red carpet ready. This foundation isn’t going anywhere. This foundation is a ten out of ten on the flawless scale. I have worn this foundation for a full 18 hours and it still looked just as great as when I first applied it. Also, this is so full coverage you don’t even need a concealer. Putting concealer over this foundation would just be overkill. This is by far the Best summer foundation on the market since it is sweat and water resistant. If you have oily skin this is your best friend for sure. This foundation also has 38 shades, so women of color are sure to find their perfect match.

CON’s: Since this foundation is full coverage beyond measure; if you have sensitive skin you will definitely feel this on your face. A downside for me is that there is no pump, which means that there is a strong chance that I can waste product. Also, it is very difficult to blend this foundation at your own pace since it dries very quickly. This can make it look blotchy if you’re not quick with the application.

Gabriella’s Final Verdict: Perfect for a hot, humid, and sweaty summer. This foundation has all the qualities you want in a partner “Faithful beyond measure.” This foundation applies well with a dense kabuki brush. As always apply primer underneath, but I wouldn’t suggest using a setting powder over this foundation; only because it is a very matte finish.

1.) Lancôme: Teint Idole Ultra 24H Long Wear Foundation

Retail: $47.00

lancome-teint-idole-ultra-24h-foundation

Perfect for: Normal and Oily Skin

Coverage: Medium to Full

PRO’s: Teint Idole is beyond the best foundation for the summer. This foundation is light- weight while at the same time giving medium to full flawless coverage that looks like your own skin. Teint Idole also comes with a pump, which is a major upside. Also, it is super blendable so you can always layer for your desired coverage. Another plus for this foundation is that it comes in 36 shades and pairs well with all undertones.

CON’s: The price is on the high side not everyone is willing to hand over nearly $50.00 for beauty products .

Gabriella’s Final Verdict: This is a beautiful foundation. There is nothing like it out there, the Teinte Idole is perfect for all skin types, and it gets a 10 out of 10 on my fierceness scale. For the best application, I would suggest using a dense kabuki brush or Beauty Blender. Remember if you have oily skin use a mattifying primer then set this foundation with a setting powder to control the appearance of oil. Way to go Lacôme! once again you’ve managed to make me put more money in your pocket.
